A bicycle trip on a low budget between Sweden and Finland - from Stockholm to Kustavi (Gustavi)
It is actually possible to reach Finland from Sweden at a cost of below 20 Euros! My trip on the Sjlia Lines boat - myself and my bicycle - costed 218 swedish cronor (less then 20 euros), return ticket!
Between the main Åland's island and Finland there are many small islands, the Åland's archipelago.
You can travel between islands with ferries...

I guess I spent less than 4,000 Swedish Cronor during this holiday, including everything: meals, campings sites and transport, etc... All the ferries between the many small islands of the Åland archipelago are free of charge if you are on foot or on a bicycle. The ferry to Finland from Åva - in the Åland's archipelago - is also free for pedestrians and cyclists.
I have a wonderful memory of that 1 week holiday in July... I would not mind going back actually, since I missed a lot of nice places, due to the lack of time. I am Italian, and I heard that on the Jurmo island - near the Åva island - there is an excellent and friendly Italian restaurant, run by an Italian. I was tempted to go there...but, since I wanted to reach Finland from Åva, I runned out of time and decided not to go Jurmo.... One cannot have everything.
It has been a wonderful and relaxing trip. The average daily distances I covered by bicycle were only about 20-30 km and everyday I would take a ferry to reach a new island. On the ferry, I could rest my legs and daydream looking at the sea.
I had much luck with the weather, sunshine everyday apart one, when I was on the Lappo Island - then it was cloudy with a bit of rain.
It is a perfect adventure to carry out 'solo'... I met so many nice people on the way...mostly other cyclists, but even a friendly young family from Oulo, Finland on a car holiday chatted with me and insisted on offering me coffee, biscuits and blueberries at my first camping stop at "Svinö Stugby". I met also another woman cycling on her own, a German. She was cycling from Finland - she actually had a long cycling adventure covering 5 countries during 1 month!
The interesting thing to say is that even if the ferries were quite full of cyclists with their bicycles, motociclists, cars, ... when cycling from one pier to the other I had the road for myself almost all the time! No traffic and beautiful scenic views everywhere. För example, see the road below:

One important advise if you plan to cycle around the Åland's archipelago: Bring with you the ferries' timetable and study it carefully!! The different routs have different schedules everyday ! No one day is the same, if a boat runs at, say, 10 o' clock on Monday,... then the same route will be at 2 p.m. the following day.
Åland is a very practical destination for those who live in Sweden and speak Swedish... the official language is in fact Swedish, even if it is a special territory under Finland.
I strongly recommend Åland to all of you who likes nature and an active holiday! There are many other activities you can do in Åland apparently: kajak, swimming etc.
