Greetings from Lion City!
In order to make this blog accessible also to non-swedish friends I have decided that it will be written in 'lingua britannica'.
Singapore - Lion City. The name alone awakens great expectations. I have been here for ten days now. In this short time I have accomplished the following tasks:
1) Successfully rented and furnished a very agreeable two bedroom condo of approximately 100 m^2, located on the 21'st floor in a tower building near Toa Payoh. I will share it with my colleague under my year here at SMU.
2) Installed myself at Singapore Management University, a stunning series of buildings with a brushed steel and glass look, that stood ready as late as 2006.
3) Opened local internet and bank accounts, a by no means easy task if you only hold a white card (short term visa) and a letter of invitation. Went to Sim Lim square to buy a wireless router, the supposedly best and biggest IT mall in Asia. Be that as it may, I got it for half the asking price in most computer equipment stores so I am pleased.
4) Had some very memorable nightly adventures in this magnificent country/city. Yes, the local Tiger beer do pack just as much of a punch as our own beloved swedish 'fulöl'.
Tomorrow the struggle for a long-term social visa continues...
