cambodia - for better or worse, in english part 2
when we last parted i was travelling to siem reap in 70 km/h on the worst road i have ever seen. here the story continues:
the road was so bad it wasnt even a wash board, pot holes the size of bath tubs but not as deep. chock absorbers and suspension going all the way the entire trip. it was bumpy to say the least, especially at that speed. three hours later we arrived, not at the 4 star hotel i was promised but at a simple guest house. but, i was to tired to argue.
i didnt even make it up to the room before i got the first offer of a girl - nice cambodian lady. got two more offers before going to sleep an hour later after a shower and a meal.
a guide and a driver i got fixed by the receptionist. i thought. we would be going at 5 am to make it to the sunset.
woke up by myself round 5 when my guide should be waiting. no way he was. so i took the fight to the personel who claimed it was decided 7 am. but it was the hotel who set the time 5 am. and they promised to wake me up, wich they didnt.
the guide came at 5.45 and off we went. his name was visnu but he wanted me to call him roy. he did a truly great job and the driver was security himself. they got 10 $ each for a job well done, to roy it was another days salary.
back at the hotel i didnt make it inside the door before the fourth offer on a girl came. this fed me up and made me ask him if it was his sister he was selling. but that was not the case. after me dinner in the evening the fifth offer cam and i pointed him to his pal and told him to ask him about my opinion. the hotel staff where all laughing.
i told the receptionist to fix my rida back to thailand since it was already prepaid. he promised me everything was ok, so i asked him when i was leaving. AND that he didnt know. but, at the end the time 7 am was 'decided'.
at 7 am ther where no bus waiting and noone wanting to drive me. the ticket wasnt valid they said, resulting in an animated discussion eventually leading up to me getting on a bus without having to pay any more dollars. apparently my ticket was valid after all. 20 minutes after leaving the bus had to stop for a change of shock absorbers and after another 20 minutes for fixing a flat tyre. this delayed me so i missed the bus to koh chang and i was stuck in aranyapratet on the thai side of the border.
the nights in cambodia was rainy so i couldnt get to an internet cafe.
