Yes! Planeringen är klar! Med den här listan i bakfickan återstår att se vad vi hittar på. Som med de flesta planeringar riskerar den givetvis att bli något helt annat, men vad gör det? Huvudsaken är att vi planerat. Nu kan vi slänga alla planer åt skogen och bara njuta av alla överraskningar. För det är väl därför man reser?

Showing hubby around in the big apple for the first time seemed like an ok idea at first, but having lived in NYC for most of the 90's I so did not want to follow the obvious tourist trail. As a result of the heavy gentrification programme on the LES with subsequent higher cost of living, many of our friends have left Manhattan for the greener pastures of Queens and Brooklyn. Now, back in the late 80's and early 90's those areas were definitely not my hangout of choice, so it was with some trepidation I ventured on the 7 to Sunnyside, Queens.

I could not have been more wrong. Getting off at 46 Street and Bliss I realized that a) Manhattan definitely looks better from a distance b) prices are so much lower and c) I can practice my spanish without feeling ashamed, as the guy selling flowers did not understand much english anyway. Both of us decidedly relieved, I walked away with a beautiful bouquet of roses for half the price of what I would have paid just 20 minutes ago in midtown Manthattan.

Aforementioned husband being a first time visitor to the city and not seeing the Green Lady might be just a tad too much, so I resigned to the fact that we at least had to squeeze on the Staten Island Ferry for a quick passing by. The Whitehall Ferry Terminal looks decidedly sharp after the rebuild in 2005, as does the South Ferry subway stop with those beautiful three dimensional glass tree walls created by two Brooklyn artist brothers.

The ferry is still free and as usual full of tourists fighting for a spot by the railings for that obligatory photo moment. I was looking for a long lost friend for a better view, but apparently he had the day off. Once he actually let me drive the ferry, but I guess those good old days are long gone. Today it´s all about safety says Mike and laughs, a ferry employee for the past 24 years. He promises to tell my old neighbour that I said hello, and off we skip to the mainland.
