Anyone up for some frog porridge?!
There were lots of food courts in Singapore with plenty of food stands. At this one, frog porridge was served. However, I never found out exactly what it was... Does anyone know?
One of the menues at Komala's, the Indian Vegetarian fastfood restaurant in Little India. Yummy! I had a menu called 'South India' for 6.40$..lots of food...
There were lots of stands selling all kinds of fruit juices in Singapore. Very nice, especially because of the humidity. and it gave me a chance to try different flavours at each one.. Time for aloe vera & pear! :-)
You really feel like miles away from the city and crowds at the green island of Pulau Ubin. I joined an arranged tour there from my hostel Betel Box. We rented bikes and drove around the almost empty island. It is strange that not more Singaporians choose to go there in the weekend.
A woman was selling coconut juice from the shell at a beach, so we stopped for something to drink. A stick insect walked by so I took the chance to hold it. What a strange insect.
Taking a bike ride on the island Pulau Ubin. I didn't know this existed in Singapore.. Strangely enough, being weekend and all, it was not so many people around. You would think more Singaporians would want to escape the big city and get some green sights.. or maybe they were all hanging out in the shopping centres..
At Pulau Ubin, we visited some environmental centre where they had tried making things like gift boxes & miniature elephants out of elephant poo. Quite fascinating! And it doesnt even smell.
After the day at Pulau Ubin, I had dinner on my way from the bus stop to the hostel. A menu sign outside said "Vegetarian Popiah".. I had know idea what Popiah was but if it was vegetarian, it couldnt be too bad :-) I also had a can of "100 Plus" till..a soft drink that is suppose to prevent dehydration. Not a bad idea in the very humid Singapore.
I was not the only single traveller. A Japanese girl approached me and asked me to photograph her. And then I asked her to photograph me. Being in your own photographs can sometimes be a bit tricky when you are travelling on your own.
I found a stand with vegetarian food in the food court opposite the temple in Chinatown.. so I had some noodles for lunch and a juice of kiwi & pear. Yummy!
In the middle of the Suntec City shopping entre was a huge fountain. A light show took place every evening and you could sms greetings to be shown in the light.
Before the show begin, people walked around inside the fountain which was suppose to bring you good luck according to Feng Shui.
My home in Singapore, the Betel box hostel, was located on a nice street with lots of restaurants and bars, which felt safe when walking home in the evening.
The place was OK so I can recommend it! It was located close to the beach but unfortunately I didnt have time to go there.. Maybe next time! :-)
